BEMIDJI--A person had to be rescued from the roof of a house after a fire was reported in the 800 block of Irvine Avenue early Thursday evening.
The house fire was reported at 5:25 p.m., the Bemidji Fire Department said, and when firefighters arrived on scene there was moderate smoke coming from the building and a person trapped on the roof. Firefighters used a ladder to bring the person off the roof and then quickly contained and extinguished the fire. A total of 15 firefighters used two fire engines and were on the scene for approximately five hours, a release said.
The fire caused an estimated $78,000 in damage to the structure and contents and the causes remains under investigation. The Bemidji Police Department, Beltrami County Sheriff's
Office, Ottertail Power Co., Minnesota Energy Resources, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office and Bemidji Ambulance also responded to the scene.
