The Brainerd Fire Department responded to a garage fire just after midnight Monday, July 6, after a relatively quiet holiday weekend.

The garage fire was reported at 12:33 a.m. at a residence on the 16000 block of Crow Wing County Highway 3, just north of Merrifield. Upon arrival, the fire was visible from the garage corner. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was contained to the garage.

Despite several fireworks complaints reported to the Brainerd Police Department from neighborhoods in the city, firefighters had no calls on the Fourth of July. However, Brainerd firefighters were called to fire alarms at 9:47 a.m. Friday on the 12000 block of Perch Lake Drive in Baxter and at 8:06 p.m. Sunday at the Crow Wing County Jail in Brainerd, but fire crews were canceled en route to both calls.

Last week, firefighters responded at 9:30 p.m. June 30 to a gas smell in an upstairs apartment above the 612 Station, 612 Front St., which was determined to be unfounded.

Firefighters responded to two calls Wednesday, with a report of a gas leak at 7:47 a.m. on the 5200 block of Gull Lake Dam Road. Firefighters provided standby assistance for the gas company. At 11:25 p.m. firefighters were called to Speedway, 14398 Dellwood Drive, Baxter, for a report of a diesel pump leaking. It was found to be a very small mess left by a customer, Baxter police reported.
