Firefighters respond to weekend calls

Fire calls range from a lightning strike to a vehicle fire to other alarms.

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to several calls this past weekend, Aug. 28-29.

Saturday

Firefighters were:

  • Called at 12:05 p.m. to a lightning strike at a residence on the 12000 block of Norway Spruce Drive. Fire crews ventilated smoke in the home.

  • Called at 1:20 p.m. to a stalled elevator at North Star Apartments, 410 East River Road. Fire crews reset the stalled elevator and assisted at the scene.

Sunday

Firefighters were:

  • Called at 10:47 a.m. to Best Buy, 14555 Edgewood Drive, Baxter, for a report of a gas smell. Upon investigation, it was determined to be unfounded. A utility company was also on scene.

  • Called at 10:55 a.m. to a fire alarm at Garfield Elementary School, 1120 NE 10th Ave., but were canceled en route.

  • Called at 1:14 p.m. for a vehicle fire at the intersection of Crow Wing County Highway 3 and Kinder Cors. Fire crews extinguished the fully engulfed vehicle and assisted at the scene.
