NISSWA-Firefighters were able to contain a fire Monday, Dec. 3, from doing more extensive damage to a rural Nisswa pole barn, including a house about 40 feet away.

Nisswa firefighters were called to a pole barn fire about 2 p.m. on the 6700 block of Cullen Loop, north of Nisswa and east of Lower Cullen Lake. About 20 firefighters from Nisswa and Pequot Lakes extinguished the fire-fast enough to stop the threat of it spreading to the nearby home.

Once firefighters were able to put out part of the fire and were close enough to see inside the shed, they learned a truck was on fire, Nisswa Assistant Fire Chief Joe Hall said.

Capt. Scott Goddard of the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office said a neighbor called in the fire. Goddard said they were working on getting in touch with the homeowners. According to the Crow Wing County detailed tax parcel report, the homeowners are Richard and Joan Krantz.

The Nisswa Police Department and Crow Wing Power assisted on scene.
