UPDATE: Deerwood man dies in head-on crash with semitrailer

Brainerd responds to garage fire: Area firefighters fight grass fires around Crow Wing County

The Brainerd Fire Department responded to two calls Saturday, April 27, including a garage fire at 6:07 p.m. on the 19000 block of Love Lake Road, Brainerd.

Brainerd Fire Chief Tim Holmes said the 30-by-30-foot garage collapsed before firefighters arrived. More than 20 firefighters from Brainerd and Nisswa extinguished the fire, but it was a total loss.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.

Brainerd also responded to a fire alarm at 4:52 p.m. Saturday at Northern Lights Apartments, 511 D St. The alarm was determined to be unfounded.

Other fires over the weekend reported by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office

• At 11:13 p.m. Sunday a fire was reported on the 40000 block of Bloomquist Drive, Emily. The Emily Fire Department responded and reported the homeowner started a leaf pile that spread into two small fires. The fire was extinguished quickly.

• Report at 9:11 p.m. Saturday of a grass fire on the 35000 block of Cory Road, Crosby. The Crosslake Fire Department and the DNR responded.

• At 8:33 p.m. Saturday, a grass fire was reported on the 14000 block of Maghan Lane, Deerwood. The fire was extinguished prior to the arrival of a county deputy.

• Report at 4:11 p.m. Saturday of a grass fire on the 18000 block of Silkstone Road, Ironton. DNR and the local fire department responded.

• Report at 12:47 p.m. Friday of a grass fire on the 21000 block of South Raider Court, Crosby. The Crosby Fire Department contained the fire before the deputy arrived on the scene.

• Report at 11:08 a.m. Friday of a grass fire on the 10000 block of Birch Trail, Brainerd. The Brainerd Fire Department contained the fire before the deputy arrived on the scene.
