The Brainerd Fire Department was busy with grass fires and other fire calls this past weekend.

Firefighters responded to two grass fires Friday, April 2, with one reported at 2:28 p.m. on the 12000 block of Highway 18, where three acres burned. The next fire was at 7:28 p.m. on the 4000 block of Cinosam Road, where less than one acre burned.

There were two grass fires Saturday — one reported at 12:02 p.m. on the 7500 block of St. Mathias Road, where five acres burned. Another grass fire was at 2:24 p.m. on the 11000 block of Executive Acres Road where two acres burned. Before the grass fires, firefighters were called at 11:22 a.m. Saturday to a power pole fire on the 11000 block of Oakridge Road. Fire crews extinguished the fire and provided standby assistance for the utility company.

On Easter Sunday, firefighters responded to three calls in the afternoon:

  • Called at 2:18 p.m. on the 4500 block of Deerwood Road for an electrical transformer box smoking. Fire crews provided standby assistance for the utility company.

  • Called at 3:13 p.m. on the 400 block of Southwest Sixth Street for an oven fire. Fire crews investigated and determined the call to be unfounded.

  • Called at 3:23 p.m. on the 100 block of Birchridge Drive for a vehicle fire. A small fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived.

Before the holiday weekend, firefighters responded to two calls Thursday. A fire alarm was reported at 12:24 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express in Baxter. Fire crews investigated and determined the cause to be unknown. A deck fire was reported at 8:34 p.m. on the 1000 block of Oak Street. Upon arrival, the fire was out. Fire crews made sure there were no fire extensions and it was completely extinguished.
