The Family Safety Network (FSN) of Cass County is hosting a Fish Fry Friday fundraiser 5-7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 10. The fish will be prepared by Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch and crew at the Union Congregational Church in Hackensack.
There will also be a silent auction of a variety of food gift baskets. Bidding will close at 6:15 p.m. with high bidders announced at that time. This event will help support FSN, which serves victims of domestic violence and their children providing confidential advocacy, support and referral services. It is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization that was established in 1993. There is a fee at the door. The annual meeting for members will precede the event at 4:30 p.m.
The mission statement of FSN is: "To help keep families safe." They are committed to providing relief to victims of violence by offering: confidential personal and legal advocacy, confidential support, help in filing court documents such as Orders for Protections and Harassment Restraining Orders, accompaniment to court hearings and other appointments, safety planning, a women's weekly support group, a 24-hour crisis line (800-324-8151), emergency transportation, public presentations for community education and referral services.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Support survivors and join the movement for a safer and healthier community by attending the fish fry.
FSN is seeking volunteers to serve on the board and volunteers to help staff the crisis line. Training is provided. Products for both the FSN office and for victims accessing services also are needed and include gas/grocery cards, phone calling cards, postage stamps, paper products (white & colored copy paper, toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex), hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine products), store gift cards (Wal-Mart, Target, etc.), cleaning products and laundry soap, diapers and wipes (all sizes), business envelopes, manila envelopes and used cell phones.
