The Crow Wing County Master Gardeners will host a series of classes on flowers every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. in March in the upper level of the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd.
Cost is $10 per person or $15 for nonmembers. For those who register for five classes will get one class free. Registration by contacting the arboretum at 218-829-8770.
Classes are:
• March 2: Dahlias will be presented by Jackie Burkey. "Dahlias can add color and texture to the Minnesota garden. Students will learn how to successfully grow dahlias and how to store the tubers in the winter. Class will look at the many different classes of dahlias, from small bushy varieties to magnificent dinner plate cultivars."
• March 9: Roses will be presented by Burkey. "Minnesota rose lovers can grow beautiful roses in spite of Zone 3 winters that usually spell doom for fragile hybrids. The class will talk about hardy new cultivars and some old standbys that offer a wide selection for gardeners who want to add easy to grow specimens to their gardens."

• March 16: Clematis and peonies will be presented by Jennifer Knutson. "Peonies are one of the most popular and showy of the garden perennials grown in Minnesota gardens. Clematis are climbing plants. The class will present different types of these plants and teach students how to care for them and add companion plants that combine well with them in a garden."
• March 23: Hostas will be presented by Jackie Froemming. "There are so many hostas from Big Daddy to Gentle Giant and this class will help people select and grow the most popular perennial in the United States."
• March 30: Daylilies will be presented by Froemming. "People can come and learn about the best daylilies for the garden. Topics to be covered include general information, basic anatomy, selecting, planting, dividing, landscaping, pests and resources."
