STILLWATER - The former president of the Lake Elmo Jaycees is facing felony theft charges for embezzling money from the volunteer organization.
Sarah Kathleen Carlson, 34, of White Bear Lake, Minn., has appeared once in Washington County District Court and is due back later in September.
Carlson admitted to taking more than $11,000 of pull tab proceeds from Twin Point Tavern in Lake Elmo, Minn., according to a criminal complaint. Carlson said she had taken the money to a casino and lost the money gambling.
She also admitted to writing checks to herself using two of the Jaycees’ bank accounts, for roughly another $10,750; however, a complete audit of both accounts show the missing amount to be in excess of $31,000.
