MANKATO - The former Minnesota State University-Mankato football player who was beaten outside a Mankato bar last spring has recovered enough to be able to visit his former teammates this week.
Isaac Kolstad returned to his hometown of Mankato to visit a football practice and former co-workers at Fastenal, according to a post by Molly Kolstad, his wife, on his CaringBridge.org site.
Isaac Kolstad suffered a skull fracture when he was knocked to the ground and kicked in the head outside a Mankato bar in May and was in critical condition in the days afterward.
Kolstad is now walking on his own and talking in short sentences, according to the post.
Former University of Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson, also from Mankato, was charged with assault in the case.

Kolstad started his college football career at North Dakota State University before he transferred to Minnesota State. He was celebrating his college graduation the night of the assault.
