THIEF RIVER FALLS - A former Pennington County social worker has been charged with defrauding the county and trying to steal nearly $1,300 in public funds by taking county vehicles to locations where she never showed up, according to court records.
Sally Ann Mumm, 51, of Thief River Falls, was charged with six counts of making false claims to a public body, all felonies, in Minnesota Ninth District Court in Thief River Falls earlier this month. She is scheduled to first appear in court on June 1.
Mumm resigned from her position with the County Department of Human Services in June 2014 amid the allegations.
Court papers allege Mumm lied on county records, falsely claiming to take a county car on work-related trips on seven separate occasions between January 2013 and December 2013.
In each instance, Mumm checked out the county car, saying she was using it to visit with clients or do business in other cities, including Clearwater, Bemidji, and Fargo, according to the affidavit of probable cause. But the facilities at which Mumm would have done business in those cities all indicated she was not there on those days, the affidavit says.

The charges are not the first of Mumm's woes. In December, her license to provide foster care services was revoked after a state Department of Human Services investigation found that her service, Sally Mumm Adult Foster Care, had more likely than not mismanaged a vulnerable adult's money.
