DULUTH - Alyssa Lommel, a 20-year-old college student who was severely frostbitten last December, returned to classes Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Mother Teri Lommel created a post on her daughter’s CaringBridge website Monday that said she was all moved in and excited to pick up her books and get back into the classroom.
“She makes me so proud to know she is diving right back into college life,” Terri Lommel wrote about Alyssa on the CaringBridge site. “I feel that she will do incredibly well.”
Lommel was hospitalized Dec. 7, when she was found on the steps of a neighbor’s home in Duluth after a night of drinking. It’s estimated she spent nearly nine hours outside on a night when the temperature dipped to 17 degrees below zero.
While hospitalized at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Lommel lost parts of her feet and all of her fingers in January due to frostbite.
