Garrison firefighters saved a garage Wednesday that started on fire on the 23000 block of Mail Route Road, about 15 miles east of Brainerd.
Garrison Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Breun said firefighters were called at 1:34 p.m. to a detached garage fire that was located between Brainerd and Garrison off Highway 18. He said the fire started in the wall of the garage and moved up into the attic. Breun said the cause of the fire was electrical.
The garage had living quarters inside it, but it was not affected by the fire, Breun said.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly.
Neighbor Steve Rentz said he was getting ready to drive to Brainerd when he saw the smoke. He learned quickly that someone had already called 911. He said he helped the homeowners empty some of the belongings in the house and garage as a precaution. The homeowners declined to comment about the fire at their home.
