Garrison garage lost to fire

GARRISON-A garage used as a living quarters was lost to fire Monday on the 17000 block of Southport Road, about 5 miles south of Garrison.

The Garrison Fire Department responded to the detached garage fire at 2:47 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Bruce Breun said upon arrival, the 25- by 30-foot garage was fully engulfed. No one was in the home at the time of the fire.

Breun said the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's office investigated the cause of the fire, which was an extension cord that failed. The estimated damage of the garage is $35,000.

A dozen Garrison firefighters responded and were on scene for about two hours. The Onamia Fire Department was paged at assist, but was canceled.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
