A Garrison woman was struck by two vehicles as she walked on Highway 169 Friday night.

Linda Pettner, 57, was fatally injured.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the crash occurred about 8:53 p.m. Prettner was in the northbound traffic lane about 4 miles south of Garrison when she was struck by a passenger car and a pickup truck.

The state patrol reported alcohol was detected in Pettner's system.

Kimberly Johnson, 29, Minneapolis, was driving a Chevrolet Club Cab pickup truck with two passengers, Robert Baker, 33 and Brian Francis, 52, both of Minneapolis. No one in the minorly damaged vehicle was reported injured. All were wearing seat belts.

Larry Wellnitz, 70, Milbank, S.D. was driving a GMC Envoy. Neither Wellnitz nor his passenger, his wife Beverly Wellnitz, 69, were reported injured. Both were wearing seat belts. Damage to the Envoy was reported as severe.

The crash came on a busy Friday night at the start of the long Labor Day weekend. Police scanner traffic on Friday indicated significant traffic on Highway 169 with many vehicles backed up after the crash was reported.

Mille Lacs County Sheriff's office assisted at the scene.
