For the last 11 years the Brainerd lakes area community has taken to the lanes on the first Sunday and Monday in May to help raise awareness and funds for not-for-profit senior care and services at Good Samaritan Society. This year’s event broke all previous records, bringing in $80,467, Good Samaritan Society officials said.
The two-day Good Samaritan Bowl has grown to include more than 1,000 bowlers, sponsors, and volunteers.
“It is overwhelming to see how many people show up to support us through this event,” said Good Samaritan Bowl coordinator Liz Csanda. “It is so much more than bowling. People come each year to witness what happens when neighbors from every corner of a community come together for a fun time in the name of a good cause.”
The event is the largest fundraiser of the year for Good Samaritan Society. Over the years, the proceeds from Good Samaritan Bowl have been put to use in building a community room, remodeling spa and resident rooms, adding a hospice suite, and replacing buses on the local campuses in Brainerd and Pine River.
“We feel so fortunate to have so much support from the community to be able to continue offering the care and services we do,” Csanda said. “We are truly humbled by the response to this great event and more than anything want it to be a celebration of what we do as a community to support our seniors.”
