Chris Cunningham

Age: 42.

Employment: Fifth generation.

Public office experience: Two years Backus City Council, four years Pine River-Backus.

What do you want to accomplish if elected? "I would like to continue working with the staff, administration and community keeping Pine River-Backus in high standards, working all aspects which we need to be focused on. Working our strategic plan, making sure our community is in the know, and having a safe place for our children."

Specifically, how would you accomplish your goals? "Working with building and grounds, transportation directors, and administration to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep our children safe whether buses or building and grounds. Being visible and approachable to all community members when all questions arise providing support and hopefully understanding on decisions. Finally working our strategic plan with staff and administration in our current sessions to make sure we are on track and staying current and staying focused on the ever changing world of education."

What abilities or qualifications separate you from your competition? Why are you the best candidate for the job? "Four years experience on the board has given me some knowledge that I previously did not have. There are many working parts which take time to dig into, learn about, and then make an informed decisions. I am vested in both Pine River and Backus in the community. I am also a former graduate from Pine River-Backus, and currently have two daughters enrolled. I can take the knowledge from being a former student, to current students, well in touch with community, present board member which I have gained to help to this school district grow."

Jason Marcum

Age: 43. Employment: Grove Homes, Inc. (owner), Marcum & Marcum, LLC (manager), R&J Holdings, LLC (owner), Jr.'s No.19 BBQ (managing partner).

Public office experience: "I have served on the Pine River-Backus School Board as an appointment 2013-14."

What do you want to accomplish if elected? "I would like to continue to work on making PR-B Schools the best it can be."

Specifically, how would you accomplish your goals? "Work with the new superintendent and current board members to try to make good, sound financial and social decisions in regard to the operation of the school."

What abilities or qualifications separate you from your competition. Why are you the best candidate for the job? "Well, I've served on the school board before, as mentioned, and I think having already served, I have a good understanding from the get go of how the board works and what's expected. I also have two children who attend PR-B and I truly care about the policies and financial stability of the school going forward."

Dawn Rubner

Employment: "My husband Brian and I, own and operate Whitefish Marine Service & Storage."

Public office experience: "I was previously on the PR-B School Board for four-plus years, and I have been a supervisor on the Timothy Township Board for about two years."

What do you want to accomplish if elected? "I would like to offer all of the students at PR-B the best possible education. We should use our tax dollars as effectively as possible and try to get as much "bang for our buck" as we can."

Specifically, how would you accomplish your goals? "We need to look at the budget, and stretch it as far as we can, without increasing taxes every year. Keeping in mind that the students come first. Finding and keeping good teachers. Also keeping in mind what our community needs and wants to maintain and increase jobs in this area. Which at the present time seems to be more vocational or two year certification jobs."

What abilities or qualifications separate you from your competition? Why are you the best candidate for the job? "I am not afraid to ask questions. I have a good understanding of the schools budget. I am not afraid to say or vote no. On every issue, I will ask myself: 1. Is this good for PR-B students? 2. Will this keep our class sizes and offerings where they need to be? 3. Are we on or within the budget?"

David Sheley

Age: 53. Employment: Own and operate the Backus Corner Store for 20 years.

Public office experience: Finishing up a two-year term.

What do you want to accomplish if elected? "I would like to continue to work for the well being of the students of this district. We have a lot of good things going on at PR-B. We need to look for ways to keep improving and support our leaders and staff."

Specifically, how would you accomplish your goals? "I want to make sure we are all accountable for the quality of our work at PR-B and to continue looking for ways to improve our school. Look for affordable ways to improve our school and facilities. Be engaged and invested in school functions and activities during and after school."

What abilities or qualifications separate you from your competition? Why are you the best candidate for the job? "With my retail background I feel I have good people skills. I'm visible, a good listener and I bring a good balance to the table."
