In a work session Monday, Oct. 1, the Pequot Lakes School Board continued discussions on the district's 2019 tax levy.
In its regular meeting Monday, Sept. 24, the board agreed to certify the maximum preliminary levy for 2018, payable in 2019.
Business manager Heidi Hagen informed the board that the district conservatively anticipates an enrollment of 1,756 students for the 2019-20 school year. Hagen also expects the need to hire four new full-time employees to compensate for any increases in enrollment and believes salary increases will range from 3 to 5 percent.
With a local option revenue of $424 per pupil, the district anticipates operating with a total tax levy of $5,994,768 in 2019, which would be an increase of $319,836 from the current year.
When approving its final levy in December, the district cannot exceed that amount.
The board will continue to discuss the levy leading up to its December meeting.
