Pine River-Backus School Board approves reduced tax levy
The Pine River-Backus School Board approved a levy of $1,739,789.84 for the 2018 pay 2019 levy.
This is a $20,109.62 reduction over the 2017 pay 2018 levy due primarily to a reduction in enrollment by approximately 20 students, which reflected in adjustments to all levy categories that depend on pupil units, including the safe schools levy, long-term facilities maintenance and others.
Business manager Jolene Bengtson said other funding remained the same, thanks to the board decision to underlevy by the same amount. The difference in funding equates to 1.14 percent.
In other business Monday, Dec. 17, the board:
• Recognized elementary school staff for completion of Envoy training. Those certified included Erica Norman, Becky Shackle, Tiffany Bergem, Justin Franke, Leah Freeman, Shania Hicks, Kathy Loge and Alexis Hansen. Elementary Principal Rick Aulie said the elementary school is working on a 70 to 80 percent certification goal, which they are on their way to reaching.
• Recognized outgoing board members Richie Bean and Garny Gaffey for their service to the board. Both Bean and Gaffey received Superintendent Dave Endicott's monthly Tiger Pride Award. Gaffey received further recognition and a plaque from Board Chair Chris Cunningham on behalf of the board for his many years of service on the board.
• Hired Nicole Kevelin as paraprofessional, and Brent Passarella and Ryan Hunt as robotics coaches.
