Gov. Tim Walz recently announced the authorization of state disaster assistance for Cass and Itasca counties for damage sustained from a severe thunderstorm with gale force winds and heavy rain on Oct. 21, 2019.
“We have a duty to help our friends and neighbors in Cass and Itasca counties,” said Walz in a news release. “That’s why we’re authorizing state disaster assistance to aid in recovery and help Minnesotans get back on track.”
A state/county preliminary damage assessment identified $160,842 in eligible damages, meeting the state disaster assistance threshold. The Cass County and Itasca County boards of commissioners declared local emergencies in their respective counties and a submitted request for state disaster assistance to aid in recovery.
This authorization by the governor allows the state disaster assistance contingency account to cover 75% of eligible costs, or $120,631.
