The Brainerd Public Library will host a grand opening at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to introduce the public to its new outdoor musical instruments. There will be a short music-themed story time, followed by a performance on the instruments by music instructor Teresa Kingsley and friends.
The outdoor instruments were made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant
from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and through additional support from the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library.
The outdoor musical instruments-drums, xylophone and metallophones-can be used by all ages year-round at the library. Everyone is encouraged to stop at the Brainerd Public Library to use the instruments at any time.
The library's fundamental mission is to connect people to knowledge and education; to be a space where the right conditions lead to creative thought and new ideas, the library stated in a news release. The library provides information for all types of learners through information resources, public art displays, performances, hands-on workshops, interactive children's early literacy areas and now through music.
