PEQUOT LAKES-Grassland and some trees and brush burned Tuesday afternoon north of The Preserve golf course at Grand View Lodge in Pequot Lakes.

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources forestry crews along with firefighters from the Pequot Lakes and Nisswa fire departments were called about 2 p.m. to battle the fire.

Steve Bartz, DNR assistant area supervisor for the Backus area, said fire crews, with around 20-25 firefighters responding, located the fire in a remote area and were able to stop the fire from spreading. Bartz said crews did have some difficulty finding the location of the fire as the roads were not clearly marked and there were several dirt roads and maintenance roads going in different directions. Bartz said the first DNR crew on scene was from Brainerd and they're able to go from the office to the fire scene in 15 minutes.

About 5 acres burned. Once the fire was out, a DNR crew stayed to make sure there were no potential hot spots.

Bartz said no structures were threatened by the fire and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
