PILLAGER-Firefighters from the Pillager Fire Department responded to a grass fire between Pillager and Baxter that threatened nearby structures the afternoon of Wednesday, June 6.
"We put out what burning fire there was and a couple of small brush piles that were burning. ... No one was home at the time," Pillager Fire Chief Greg Ringler said.
The property on the 12000 block of Clark Drive Southwest is south of Legacy Courses at Cragun's and north of Highway 210. The fire was reported about 3:45 p.m. Winds were at 14 mph and temperatures were in the 70s at the time.
"We did determine that there were some electrical wires that were running from a pole to service a camper and maybe a shed, and we did find a break in that wire, which appears to be the cause of the fire," Ringler said.
Barbara Kettlewell Scott of Sunup Ranch pays taxes on the 39-acre Sylvan Township property classified as "agricultural" and has a total value of $151,100, according to Cass County records.

"It did get up against a structure, but nothing started there. It was a block foundation, so it kept it from getting anything going. ... Luckily, this time of year things are greened up, so it doesn't get too crazy," Ringler said.
"It's kind of a summer cabin. ... No one lives here permanently. A neighbor saw it from the west, and came down investigating, and called 911."
Vehicles from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also responded to the Cass County grass fire.
