A grass fire broke out Monday afternoon on Oak Point Road in Wilkinson Township in Cass County.
The fire was reported at 3:55 p.m. Christi Powers, public information officer with the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center, said about 2 acres burned just before 5 p.m. and the fire was still going. She said grass, swamp and trees were burning and one helicopter was out helping extinguish the fire.
Powers said now with the weather conditions drying out, people need to be careful. She said it takes only an hour for things to dry out and to then become flammable, especially when there are strong wind conditions.
Burning restrictions for Cass County went into effect April 4.
