Great Pumpkin Festival is Oct. 12; Warming house dedication to precede event

The 13th annual Great Pumpkin Festival is set for 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Gregory Park in Brainerd.

The free family event will feature games and activities for children of all ages, including bouncy ball races, three-legged races, sack races, wheelbarrow races, pumpkin rolling, pie eating contest and pie throwing event.

Horse rides will be provided by Outback Trail Rides for a small fee.

Guests will get the chance to win a pumpkin donated by Outback Trail Rides, too.

Food vendors include the Brainerd Lakes Area Women of Today and cotton candy from Sweet Clouds and Cones.

Warming house dedication

Prior to the Great Pumpkin Festival, a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new warming house and pavilion at Gregory Park will take place at 12:30 p.m.

The warming house will be dedicated to Mike Padgett, who has taught kids how to skate at Gregory Park for more than 40 years. Padgett is a past world title skiing champion in the Special Olympics.

The new building will consist of a warming house, pavilion, kitchen and Americans with Disabilities Act compliant restrooms.
