Groundbreaking, open house set for Highway 371 expansion

PEQUOT LAKES--The public is invited to Pequot Lakes for a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the Highway 371 Corridors of Commerce four-lane expansion project.

PEQUOT LAKES-The public is invited to Pequot Lakes for a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the Highway 371 Corridors of Commerce four-lane expansion project.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation and the design-build team at Mathiowetz Construction, along with representatives from the city of Pequot Lakes and other local cities, Pequot Lakes and Brainerd Lakes Chambers of Commerce, Crow Wing County, local and state officials and others, marking the start of major roadwork in one of Minnesota's most popular tourist and vacation destinations.

The ceremony is planned at 2 p.m. Friday at Trailside Park, just north of the Pequot Lakes Welcome Center, in the SE corner of Highway 371/County Road 11 in Pequot Lakes; also near the Paul Bunyan Trail.

The groundbreaking and construction kick-off ceremony is for the Highway 371 four-lane expansion project in the communities of Nisswa, Pequot Lakes and Jenkins. Guests include state, county and city representatives, chambers of commerce, local businesses and project partners.

The agenda includes a greeting, remarks, and groundbreaking ceremony along with a project site tour with the contractor, about 30 minutes, transportation to/from job site is provided.

From 4:30-6:30 p.m. a public open house at the historic Cole Memorial Building, beneath the famous Pequot Lakes "bobber" water tower across from Trailside Park is planned on the west side of Highway 371.
