A group looking at housing issues as part of the five-county Resilient Region plan will host a gathering of real estate agents, landlords and affordable housing specialists to discuss long-term goals.
The meeting will be 4-7 p.m., Oct. 9 at the Greater Lakes Area Association of Realtors building in Baxter. The public is welcome to attend.
A second meeting planned for Oct. 28 will incorporate comments from the housing professionals while hosting a similar gathering for contractors, builders, appraisers and housing finance specialists.
The idea is to bring real estate professionals together with specialists from the Housing and Redevelopment Authority offices in the region to provide a "reality check" on the goals established through the Resilient Region process, said Lynn Hunt, co-chair of the group's housing committee.
"Both of these groups see housing from different perspectives," she said. "We want to understand the many complex housing issues through their years of experience."

Each of the housing meetings in October will include a review of housing goals, roundtable discussions and panelists of experts from the various professions. Mike Monson, a rural development specialist with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, will be keynote speaker. The meeting will include presentations about energy-saving aspects of high-performance homes and alternative renewable energy in housing.
