The charges stem from a call made to the Brainerd Police Department on Nov. 2, where the complainant reported Peterson, who is known to the victim, assaulted her and stole her phone, laptop and wallet on Halloween night, Oct. 31.
A Brainerd officer arrived at the residence and observed the woman had substantial bruising to her face including bruising to both eyes, it stated in the criminal complaint filed against Peterson. The woman stated Peterson came to the residence while people were trick or treating. He was at the residence for about an hour and then pushed her to the ground and began stomping on her head with his feet. Peterson then grabbed her around the neck. At some point another female came into the living room and told Peterson to stop. The woman then crawled to her bedroom to get away from him.
The next day, Nov. 1, the woman was dizzy and had trouble swallowing water. Peterson had stolen her phone, laptop and wallet and she was too dizzy to go to a neighbor’s house to summon help, the court document stated. On Nov. 2, she was still dizzy but was able to get to a phone and call law enforcement. The officer photographed bruising to her chest, face, upper arms, sides of her rib cage and back and the redness and bruising to her neck.
Peterson, who continues to be in Crow Wing County Jail, was expected to be in court Tuesday, Nov. 10, for a hearing. Bail was set at $150,000 with no conditions or $100,000 with conditions including he have no contact with the victim and he cannot possess alcohol, drugs or firearms.
