Happy Dancing Turtle will host an overnight camping trip to the headwaters of the Mississippi River at Itasca State Park for girls heading into fifth through eighth grades.
The trip will be July 20 and the cost is $45, with a maximum of 10 participants allowed. The reservation deadline is July 15 and those interested may visit www.happydancingturtle.org to sign up.
Campers will learn the ins and outs of camping, such as how to set up a tent and cook over the fire, a news release stated.
"I'm excited to open up this opportunity to young girls, especially this year, with Itasca celebrating their 125th anniversary," said Michelle Hoefs, Happy Dancing Turtle program assistant. "Plus, camping is a blast."
Activities planned range from crossing the headwaters of the Mississippi River and climbing the fire tower to searching for animal tracks and exploring the park.

I'm really looking forward to showing them some of the special places that many people overlook," said Nora Woodworth, Happy Dancing Turtle program specialist, who has camped at Itasca before and will be taking the campers to some of her favorite spots. "For instance, I'm sure they'd love the giant white pines that are hundreds of years old."
Transportation, food, snacks, reservation fees and camping equipment are included in the cost of the sign up. Campers will need to bring their own sleeping bag.
