GARRISON TOWNSHIP — Three people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Garrison Township.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported 21-year-old Robert Lee Nickaboine, of Onamia, was driving north on Highway 169 south of Garrison in a 2007 Ford Expedition at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2012 Kia Sedona driven by 34-year-old Amy Jo Ruiz, of Hampton, Iowa.
Nickaboine and his passenger, 17-year-old Chey Amos Garbow of Onamia, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Ruiz, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to an unknown medical facility.
Roads were snowy and icy, and neither Nickaboine nor Garbow were wearing seat belts. Alcohol was involved, the state patrol reported.
The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Garrison Fire Department assisted on scene.
