State House Republicans announced Tuesday, Nov. 27, their leadership team for the upcoming legislative session. Local State Rep. Josh Heintzeman, R-Nisswa, was among those elected by his peers to serve as an assistant leader.

This will be Heintzeman's first session as a member of the House leadership team. Heintzeman was first elected in 2014 and has "quickly emerged as a leading voice on matters related to natural resources, outdoor recreation and water quality," a news release from a media liaison of the Republican caucus stated. He was chief author of this year's Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources bill and spearheaded the effort to include Crosslake's International Loon Center in this coming year's recommendations to the Legislature.

"I am honored to be elected by my peers to serve on our leadership team for the upcoming legislative session," Heintzeman stated in the release. "We have a lot of work to do these next two years and I look forward to providing a clear contrast and alternative to the Democrats' agenda of government-run health care, higher taxes, runaway spending and bigger government. I remain committed to working hard to protect Minnesotans' pocketbooks and providing common sense solutions to lower the cost of the health care and grow our economy."

In addition to serving as a state representative, Heintzeman is a small-business owner. He and his wife Keri live in Nisswa with their six children.
