Motorists who travel Highway 169 between Garrison and Aitkin will encounter road crews, heavy equipment and delays while segments of the road are reduced to a single lane beginning Wednesday.

The lane closures will occur from sunrise to sunset, up to seven days per week, while crews resurface 16 miles of roadway, according to a news release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Flaggers and a pilot car will allow one-way, alternating traffic through each day's work zone. Motorists approaching the work zones must obey the flagger and follow the pilot car through the work zone. Also, drivers entering a work zone from roads or driveways that intersect Highway 169 must wait for the pilot car to pass, then follow it through the work zone.

The lane closures will be complete by July 21; the schedule is weather dependent, MnDOT stated.

When complete, the project will provide a smoother ride and extend the life of the roadway.
