The Highway 6 resurfacing project previously scheduled to begin in early July has been rescheduled by the contractor to begin Saturday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation stated in a news release Thursday.
Motorists will encounter lane closures on Highway 6 between Highway 200 in Remer and the Cass/Itasca county line, near Willow Lake, from sunrise to sunset, Mondays through Saturdays, until late August.
Flaggers and a pilot car will allow one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone. Motorists must slow down and be prepared to stop, obey the flagger, and follow the pilot car through the work zone. Motorists entering from driveways or roads that intersect Highway 6 must wait for the pilot car to pass, then follow it through the work zone.
The closures are needed while crews resurface 11 miles of Highway 6 in Cass County, and add rumble strips along segments of the roadway.
Knife River Materials of Bemidji is the prime contractor for the $1.6 million project that will provide a smoother ride, improve safety and extend the life of the roadway, MnDOT stated.
