CROSBY - Dr. Robert O. Fisch, a native of Budapest, Hungary, and survivor of Nazi concentration camps including Mauthausen, will be the featured speaker at the next Unlimited Learning event.
Fisch will speak at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 at Heartwood Senior Living in Crosby.
He completed medical school in Hungary, and came to America in 1957. He became an intern and eventually a professor of pediatrics at the University of Minnesota until his retirement. Fisch is known for his clinical research on PKU, a genetic disease. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, the Walker Art Center and Minneapolis College of Art and Design. His works have been exhibited in shows in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Washington D.C., Memphis, Israel and Austria.
For decades, Dr. Fisch was silent about his experiences during the Holocaust.
Now retired and 87 years old, he continues to share his story of happiness, acceptance and gratitude for his liberation so others might learn from his past. His book "Light from the Yellow Star: Lessons of Love" tells how he came to understand the power of love and freedom. Dr. Fisch's testimony is available at the University of Minnesota Visual History Archive website. His website is www.yellowstarfoundation.org .
