New Pathways will receive a $100,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Trust for the 2018-19 fiscal year, which will cover over half of the homeless sheltering program's federal funding loss.
This will give New Pathways time to develop more stable long-term funding sources, the organization reported in a news release.
New Pathways also received a donation of $10,000 from Motley Free Methodist Church for its Brainerd site. In addition, there were many other churches, businesses and individuals who contributed.
"New Pathways would like to thank the community for their outstanding support for their local program, which provides shelter and support services to families experiencing homelessness," the release stated. "Thanks to their support, New Pathways expects to be able to continue offering their services in the Brainerd lakes area for the foreseeable future."
New Pathways serves families with children experiencing homelessness in 10 counties in central Minnesota. They have a day center where families go to work on a plan to get back into housing, shower, do laundry and search for employment if needed. In the evening, they go to one of New Pathways' partner churches, where they have meals and a place to stay overnight.

"We still have an aggressive annual fundraising budget that we will need to meet," said Pamela Streed, executive director, "but the community has demonstrated that this is an organization they want to have in their community, so I am confident that with their support we will be able to achieve our goals."
