Hot charcoal appears to have started wildfire

The fire appeared to have started from a pile of hot charcoal that was dumped in the woods after it was used in a grill.

NIMROD — A fire burned about 1.5 acres of woodland Monday, May 31, in Bullard Township in the Lyons State Forest, south of Nimrod.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office was called at 6:25 p.m. to the wildfire, which spread into the pine trees. The fire appeared to have started from a pile of hot charcoal that was dumped in the woods after it was used in a grill.

The Staples Fire Department and Minnesota DNR forestry division extinguished the fire.
