Brainerd firefighters responded to a blaze Friday night burning the house belonging to someone just like them.
At about 11:15 p.m. Friday, March 1, firefighters were called to the 7700 block of Wise Road for a fire at the home of Mission firefighter Zachary Weberg and his family. It was initially reported the homeowners were having difficulty getting everyone out of the house, including two children and dogs. Deputy Chief Dave Cox reported at the scene everyone managed to get out of the home as flames shot from an upstairs bedroom window.
Firefighters sprayed water through the busted out window as smoke crept along the eaves of the home. Visible flames were knocked down quickly, as crews entered the building to battle the blaze from inside. A light snow continued to fall and the air temperature was 8 degrees in Brainerd as of 11:53 p.m., feeling like 1 below zero with the wind chill.
Earlier in the night, Brainerd firefighters were called to provide mutual aid to a barn fire northeast of Hillman, where 30 cows perished.
