PEQUOT LAKES-A 20-year-old man was injured in a personal watercraft crash reported at 3:55 p.m. Tuesday in Kimball Lake near Pequot Lakes.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office reported Ryan Diel, 35, and Michael Lillard, 20, both of Onalaska, Wis., were riding rented Jet Skis. The sheriff's office reported Diel became distracted and did not see Lillard turn in front of him, causing him to crash into Lillards' machine.
Lillard was transported by North Memorial Ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd for non-life-threatening injuries.
Driver inexperience and distraction were the main causes of the crash, the sheriff's office reported.
"We'd like to remind people who are out enjoying the lakes and power equipment to use caution and to stay safe distances from other watercraft," the sheriff's office reported.
