A Crow Wing County jury found 34-year-old Joshua Wermers of Brainerd guilty of engaging in sexual contact with a 7-year-old boy multiple times at a residence in Brainerd during January and February of 2013.

Crow Wing County District Court Judge David J. Ten Eyck presided over the four-day trial and remanded Joshua Wermers to custody pending the completion of a presentence investigation and a psychosexual evaluation. Ten Eyck scheduled sentencing for April 2.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Wermers, on or about Feb. 28, 2013, Crow Wing County Social Services received a report of a possible sexual assault involving Wermers and his seven-year-old boy. Crow Wing County Social Services forwarded the report to law enforcement on or about March 6, 2013.

On March 11, 2013, Crow Wing County Social Services interviewed the victim who said Wermers touched him on his private part and he didn't like it so he told his mom to make it stop. The boy said Wermers started touching his private part in January of 2013 and he stopped sometime in February of 2013.

According to the victim, the contact happened in his parents' bedroom, in his bedroom and in the bathroom, court documents said. Brainerd investigator interviewed the victim's mother afterwards and she told him the same story. She said the victim told her on Feb. 5, 2013. She also explained that they have lived in Brainerd for the last four years. She and Wermers have been married for five years.
