The Lakes Area Law Enforcement Association was recognized as the Civic Organization of the Year at the Minnesota Crime Prevention Association annual conference.
Attending was Brainerd Police Chief Corky McQuiston and Baxter Police Chief Jim Exsted along with Lakes Area Law Enforcement Association members Herman Bradley, president; Paul Laughton, vice president; Pat Wlasiuk, treasurer; and Duane Henningson.
The group meets the third Thursday of each month at the Brainerd Police Department conference room. Visitors may attend on a trial basis, however, to become a member, requires a positive background check.
Members assist with traffic control, crowd control and security for some requested event which include in-line skating events, triathlons, bike touring events, public safety events, public service events and parades.
