Lakewood Health System announced a formal collaborative commitment with the Staples-Motley Independent School District on its upcoming activities and wellness facilities addition.
Lakewood officials said they believe the collaboration to enhance phase one of the school’s improvements plan will contribute to a healthier community for all and a pooling of resources will result in smart, collective and impactful investments, according to officials.
“We know 80% of a person’s health is linked to factors that occur outside of our clinic walls,” Lakewood’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Albrecht said in a news release.
A healthier population drives down the total cost of health care and improves health outcomes.
“Community facility investments are responsible investments, ensuring our patients have the opportunity to be healthy where they live, work, learn and play,” said Lakewood Chief Financial Officer Lisa Bjerga, in the news release.

Lakewood President and CEO Tim Rice stated the health system and its board of directors were behind this pledge to the school district.
“As anchor institutions, we have a shared responsibility to lead and collaborate on addressing education, health and community needs,” Rice said. “We look forward to working with the Staples-Motley Independent School District during this facility enhancement opportunity. Investments that improve educational outcomes, health and overall well-being are a win-win-win for us all. ”
