PEQUOT LAKES - Pequot Lakes area resident Ted Leagjeld, former teacher, retired resort owner and lifelong writer, will give a book talk and sign books at the Pequot Lakes Community Library at 1 p.m. Saturday. Leagjeld has recently published his fifth book, "Prairie Wind Rural School," and will relate his experiences as an educator starting in a one-room school in Jessie, N.D. Having had only two months of education at Valley City (North Dakota) State University, Leagjeld and fellow students in his field, were told by the school's dean that North Dakota had a dire shortage of rural teachers, and would any of them want to take jobs there. That was a challenge 18-year-old Leagjeld could not pass up.

Thus starts the story chronicled in "Prairie Wind Rural School." Leagjeld has kept journals throughout his subsequent life which helped keep his memories alive. His book is full of interesting and funny anecdotes.

As he has said, "Teaching is my passion," and his enthusiasm shows in the way he describes his years as an educator.

His talk will end with a question/answer period. The program is free and open to the public. Leagjeld will have copies of all his books on hand for purchase and for him to sign.
