LITCHFIELD – The luck of the horseshoe was apparently with a farrier from Meeker County.

Joseph Yanish, a professional farrier from Litchfield, won $1 million May 14 playing Powerball.

Yanish and his family claimed the prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Roseville. He is the third Minnesotan to win a $1 million Powerball prize so far this year.

Yanish said he won the $1 million prize on an “impulse purchase” he made at a Casey’s General Store in St. Cloud.

“I was freaking out,” he said. “My wife (Erin) thought someone had died.”

Erin Yanish said she had a more even-keeled about the win.

“We are quite content as is,” she said. “We are going to go on living life the way we have.”
