Local Girl Scout council elects national delegates

Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines elected women and teens from Fort Ripley and Brainerd to represent them as national delegates at the National Convention in October. National delegates bring the voice of the central lakes area to make decisions about the future of Girl Scouting at a triennial convention.

Joy McMillion of Fort Ripley was elected as adult community member for 2017. She has been a member of Girl Scouts for 17 years. She, who said she loves the skills learned from Girl Scouting, is a leader and co-leader with Girl Scouts. McMillion has been instrumental in planning day camp for girls in the area.

High school student Katlyn McMillion of Fort Ripley was elected as girl community member for 2017. She has been involved with Girl Scouts for 12 years. As a Girl Scout she has volunteered at many events and activities. Together with her troop, Katlyn McMillion has led several service projects.

Dawn Cain of Brainerd was also elected as adult community member for 2017. Cain has been a member of Girl Scouts for seven years, and is a troop leader. Cain said she loves to see her girls learn and grow. She is very involved with her church and held several leadership positions.

Megan Heinrich of Brainerd was elected as girl community member for 2017. She has been involved with Girl Scouts for 11 years. She has led activities for younger girls in Girl Scouts and led community service projects. She has been part of the council's governance process by serving as a delegate for two consecutive years.

Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin Lakes and Pines mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouting is open to all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade.
