Local songwriter, singer and guitarist Shannon Murray will perform music and share history of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Brainerd Public Library.
Murray's show will feature original music and music from the IWW labor movement of the early 1900s. She will also share research on the general history of the time and how music was used by IWW as an organizing tool within the labor movement.
Murray will also share her personal history with American union leader Eugene Debs, who founded IWW, and his visit to Bemidji, along with local IWW organizing and riots.
The event, funded in part by the Legacy Amendment, is free and appropriate for all ages.
Murray will also perform "People's Music: Songs of the Industrial Workers of the World" at the following area Kitchigami Regional Library branches:
