Every three years, the city of Brainerd sends out a request for contracted operating services for Brainerd and Crow Wing County Public Transit. Recently, the council awarded the contract to Productive Alternatives, which will take over July 1.
Productive Alternatives has been a part of the Brainerd and surrounding region for decades. According to a news release by the company, they help fill a niche in the workforce by providing person-centered skills training, job exploration, job placement, and supports for adults with disabilities. They also offer contracted work crews, manufacturing and assembly services to many area businesses. They have been operating public transit services for Otter Tail, Clay and Wilkin counties for over a decade, providing over 13,000 rides per month with a fleet of more than 20 buses, a news release stated.
"We have been a part of the Brainerd community for over 20 years, and are excited to diversify and expand our services by providing transit to the area," Productive Alternatives branch manager Kevin Larson stated in the release. "Our goal will be to deliver high-quality, reliable and friendly service, and by doing so, increase ridership."
