BRAINERD — A 30-year-old man who died after disappearing underwater Monday, Sept. 5, while swimming in Rice Lake in Brainerd was identified Tuesday as Alan Garcia of Hutchinson.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at about 1:37 p.m. Monday at North Star Camp, 11287 Eagleview Drive, of a staff member from a southern Minnesota school who went underwater. Garcia was with a group of students on a weekend retreat.
Upon arrival, deputies learned a student with the group retrieved the man from the water. Deputies, along with officials from North Memorial Health Ambulance, administered life-saving measures before Garcia was transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Brainerd, where he was later pronounced dead.
Garcia was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. The cause of death was not yet confirmed Monday evening.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assisted at the scene.
