BRAINERD — Brainerd High School students are trying to address hunger in the lakes area this Halloween.
In an effort called We Scare Hunger, students from the high school’s Key Club, Interact Club, FFA, Sources of Strength and Student Council will collect nonperishable food items and other goods instead of trick-or-treating for candy. All food collected will go to the BHS Warrior Warehouse and the Salvation Army Food Shelf to benefit students and community members in need.
Those who are willing to help can have nonperishable food items ready for students to pick up between 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 31.
Some items needed are: canned food, instant/microwavable food, fruit snacks, cracker packs, ramen, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, cough drops, lip balm, earbuds, socks (men’s and women’s), winter gloves, winter hats and gift cards/cash donations.
Items can be prepared in bags and left outside doors or dropped off to the BHS office during school hours Oct. 31 or Nov. 1.
