LITTLE FALLS — Camp Ripley Environmental, Morrison Soil and Water Conservation District and the Forest Stewardship Guild will host a private landowner “Learn and Burn” event at Camp Ripley.
The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 22.
Private landowners within the Camp Ripley Sentinel Landscape are invited as part of the Camp Ripley Sentinel Landscape partnership to attend the daylong event to learn from professionals about the methods and the multiple benefits of prescribed fire.
Participants can meet at the Camp Ripley Education Center. There is no charge for registration, and a free lunch is included. There will be options for various diets. Remember to bring your official ID or driver's license to gain access to the military base.
There will be a morning classroom session on fire history, ecology, uses, fire behavior and safety and afternoon field visits to a minimum of three sites: a site prepped for burning, a recently burned site and a site where the group can view Camp Ripley’s Burn Team ignite and manage a low-complexity burn.

“We hope to build interest and awareness about prescribed burning among landowners in the region. This is a brief introduction to prescribed fire and will not qualify participants to conduct a prescribed burn,” according to officials in the news release.
