BRAINERD — Charles “Chuck” Parins will be on the ballot Aug. 9 for the House District 10A seat, but the Little Falls Republican said he is not actively campaigning for election.
Parins, who initially tossed his hat in the ring against incumbent Rep. Ron Kresha, R-Little Falls, said his decision to step back is due to family health issues.
“I do want to thank all of the people of District 10 who have been extremely supportive of my candidacy, as it was truly heartwarming and encouraging,” Parins wrote in a statement.
A Little Falls Township supervisor since 2000 and a retired colonel with the U.S. Army and National Guard, Parins said he was motivated to run because he believes there needs to be a more conservative approach to political leadership in Minnesota.
“There are such a myriad of issues that confront us today, however, it will take Republican Candidates with the insight, fortitude and personal wherewithal to represent the beliefs and values of the People of District 10 to make a difference in Our House and Senate,” Parins wrote. “With the redistricting of the Districts, the Citizens of District 10 have an exceptional opportunity to look at all the issues of concern to the people of 10 to see if our Representatives and Senator are truly representing those beliefs and values within their voting records.

“ … Ultimately, this means voting for our Republican candidates.”

Parins said voting for Republicans is necessary because under the current political leadership, Minnesotans are seeing their way of life diminished and scorned every day. Senior citizens are finding it harder to stay in their homes due to taxes and a high cost of living, he said, and public safety and the rule of law are at risk because of Democratic policies. Parins said he also supports policies to protect children from negative societal influences that are becoming institutionalized in the education system with misguided governmental policies and through the media.
“We are behind the global power curve when it comes to our educational competence for the future. After two years of COVID lockdowns it is time to reestablish our educational prominence and intellectual brain trust,” Parins wrote.
